The CEU Philosophy Department cordially invites you to the next screening
of its Philm Club series:

The Stranger From Afar (Marebito), 2004
directed by Takashi Shimizu
Japanese with English subtitles, 92 minutes

Friday, December 3, 6:00 p.m.
Zrinyi 14 / Room 412
A cameraman who is obsessed with fear captures the footage of a man stabbing himself, apparently due to seeing something really terrifying. Intrigued by the recorded horror in the suicide's eyes, the cameraman descends to the hidden passageways beneath Tokyo, in order to find out and record the ultimate terror he is striving for. What he finds there is a savage creature, and by bringing it to his own world, the cameraman himself enters into a new reality.

A barely-known film by the director of the Japanese horror series Ju-On (Grudge), Marebito is -not a horror but a- disquieting downtempo phantasmagoria, stretching across genres and various themes.

The Philm Club aims at screening and discussing movies that raise
philosophically relevant issues in accessible as well as entertaining ways.
